The Constantia wine tour starts with pickup from your accommodation, followed by a short drive to the Constantia Valley, nestled at the foot of Table Mountain. Located close to the city, it is an easily accessible option for those who want to experience the Cape's wine culture without a long journey. This leafy suburb is one of Cape Town's most prestigious, and is home to some of the best Constantia wineries. The beautiful valley is lined with rolling vineyards and historic Dutch architecture, with sweeping views across the surrounding mountains.
Constantia is the oldest wine producing region in South Africa, with winemaking here dating back to 1685. It was once famous across Europe for its sweet Vin de Constance, a dessert wine enjoyed in royal courts, and today the valley is known for its cool climate wines, particularly its crisp Sauvignon Blanc. Along the way, guests learn about the heritage of these wine farms and what makes the region's wines so distinctive.
The tour includes two wine tasting sessions at leading estates, giving guests the chance to sample world class wines in the setting where they are made, with views stretching across the valley and surrounding mountains. Guests also explore a historic wine cellar, gaining firsthand insight into how Constantia's wines are produced, surrounded by endless vineyards.
Guests are welcome to purchase wine directly from the estates visited, a lovely way to take a piece of the Constantia Valley home.
