Geiger’s Camp offers a secluded, elegant retreat where luxury meets a rustic charm in the heart of the Timbavati and Umbabat Private Nature Reserves. Originally a family home, this camp maintains a warm, welcoming atmosphere while embracing artistic touches, with decor and artworks crafted by the owner, Marion Geiger-Orengo. Set on a ridge, the camp provides sweeping views of the Sharalumi River and the surrounding Big Five territory, making it an ideal spot for a tranquil African adventure.

Designed with privacy in mind, Geiger’s Camp consists of four uniquely styled rooms, each with a private deck overlooking the bush. The camp is perfect for families or small groups of up to eight people. Guests can relax by the oval infinity pool, which offers uninterrupted views of the wilderness, or take advantage of the main camp’s amenities just a short distance away.

For a truly special experience, guests can enjoy a private sleepout under the stars at Xanatsi Dam, complete with a simple dinner, drinks, and a secure, open-air treehouse with a retractable roof. Dining at Geiger’s Camp and Motswari Private Game Reserve is a culinary journey, with meals served in scenic locations or in the intimate, open-air boma. Brunch, high tea, and dinner are all included, with the option for romantic dinners or bush breakfasts.

Guests are treated to exceptional game viewing on morning and evening drives, led by expert guides and trackers. For those who wish to explore on foot, guided safari walks offer a closer look at the smaller details of the African landscape. The camp’s private terrace, pool, and cozy lounge provide additional spaces to unwind and enjoy the natural surroundings, while a library and gallery showcase the camp’s history and artistic flair.

Wildlife

  • High concentration of Big 5 with large herds of elephant and buffalo, as well as large lion prides.
  • Other wildlife include but are not limited to the hippopotamus, giraffe, zebra, cheetah, African wild dog, hyaena, warthog and many other cat and antelope species.
  • Large antelope herds support the populations of predators in the reserve.
  • Over 500 bird species have been recorded in the region. Many can be seen in the reserve.

Game Drives

  • Game drives take place twice a day in the early mornings and afternoons for a duration of 3-4 hours.
  • Game drives are led by an experienced guide and tracker team.
  • Vehicles are allowed to go off road to track and follow the wildlife.
  • Strict traverse rules are in place and vehicle numbers are limited in each reserve. A maximum of two vehicles are allowed at any sighting.
  • Night drives and guided bushwalks are permitted.

Location

  • Located within the Timbavati and Umbabat Private Nature Reserve, this area further lies in the western region of the Greater Kruger and borders the Kruger National Park, Klaserie Game Reserve, Thornybush Game Reserve.
  • The Kruger National Park is almost 2 million hectares and lies in the north-eastern corner of South Africa in the Limpopo and Mpumalanga provinces.

Getting There

  • Hoedspruit (HDS) is the closet commercial airport to Geiger’s Camp, daily flights operate from Johannesburg and Cape Town.
  • Flight time from Johannesburg to Hoedspruit or private airstrip: 60 minutes.
  • Flight time from Cape Town to Hoedspruit: 2 hours 30 minutes.
  • Road transfers from Hoedspruit to Geiger’s Camp takes 90 minutes.

Child Policy

  • Geigers Camp welcomes guests from 16 years.
  • Children of all ages are welcome when the camp is booked as exclusive-use.
  • Children under 16 years are not permitted on the bushwalks.
  • Children under 18 are not permitted at Giraffes Nest.
