Evenings are spent under the African stars and dinning takes place around a roaring fire in the open sided thatch boma. 5-star Kapama River Lodge is made up of 64 rooms and is the largest camp at Kapama Game Reserve.
Kapama is a Big 5 private game reserve in the Kruger National Park offering exceptional 4×4 game drives, unique activities, and romantic treehouse sleep-outs under the stars. Kapama Game Reserve is home to another three luxury lodges located around the reserve namely; Southern Camp, Buffalo Camp and Kapama Karula.
With bushveld views from Kapama River Lodge and two game drives daily, guests can discover over 40 mammal species and more than 330 bird species. Expert rangers and trackers at Kapama Private Game Reserve endeavour to find the best wildlife sightings for you and optimize your experience to take great photographic images. Guests at Kapama River Lodge can book a photographic workshop with one of South Africa’s leading wildlife photographers, suited to both beginner and intermediate levels. Learn about the technical and artistic sides of wildlife photography. For romantics, Kapama offers an exclusive experience in an open treehouse sleep-out. The timber platform above the ground hosts 2 guests for a night secluded in the bushveld. With the treehouse illuminated by lanterns, a five-course dinner is served by a personal chef after which you can enjoy the tranquillity of nature’s sounds and glimmering African skies. Your home for the night is equipped with a bathroom which has a flush toilet, shower, and his and hers basins.

Wildlife
- High concentration of Big 5 with large herds of elephant and buffalo, as well as large lion prides.
- Other wildlife include but are not limited to the hippopotamus, giraffe, zebra, cheetah, African wild dog, hyaena, warthog and many other cat and antelope species.
- Large antelope herds support the populations of predators in the reserve.
- Over 500 bird species have been recorded in the region. Many can be seen in the reserve.
Game Drives
- Game drives take place twice a day in the early mornings and afternoons for a duration of 3-4 hours.
- Game drives are led by an experienced guide and tracker team.
- Vehicles are allowed to go off road to track and follow the wildlife.
- Strict traverse rules are in place and vehicle numbers are limited in each reserve. A maximum of two vehicles are allowed at any sighting.
- Night drives and guidedbushs walk are permitted.

Location
- Located in the western region of the Greater Kruger, nestled between Blyde River Canyon and Kruger National Park. The reserve borders the Balule and Thornybush private game reserves.
- The Kruger National Park is almost 2 million hectares and lies in the north-eastern corner of South Africa in the Limpopo and Mpumalanga provinces.
- Kapama Game Reserve is 15,000 hectares in size.
Getting There
- Hoedspruit (HDS) is the closet commercial airport to the Kapama River Lodge, daily flights operate from Johannesburg and Cape Town.
- Flight time from Johannesburg to Hoedspruit: 60 minutes.
- Flight time from Cape Town to Hoedspruit: 2 hours 30 minutes.
- Road transfers from Hoedspruit to Kapama River Lodge take 30 minutes.
Child Policy
- Kapama River Lodge welcomes children of all ages.
- Children under 6 years are not permitted on the game drives unless a private vehicle is hired.
- Bush Bumble Drives for ages under 6 includes a game experience focusing on the smaller animals, birds, tracking and a variety of plains game.
- Children are accommodated in interleading Tamboti Superior Suites.
Inclusions & Exclusions
- Included: 2 x Game drives per day, guided bush walks, all meals, soft drinks, selected alcoholic beverages, and Hoedspruit (HDS) airport transfers.
- Excluded: Premium branded drinks, conservation levies, other transfers, and anything of personal nature.
